You might think choosing what to wear on a plane comes down to comfort.
But airline workers have stressed there are some things you should avoid pulling out of the wardrobe before a flight.
As it turns out, what you wear on a plane can become extremely important in the case of an emergency, as former Emirates staffer Drake Pooley highlighted in a recent video.

As part of his training with the airline, Drake revealed he took part in a demonstration day and discovered one crucial thing - “do not wear shorts.”
“The reason being, if you have an emergency and you need to use the slide, you will literally burn your skin off,” he shared in a clip on TikTok, that has since gained over 2 million views.

“This was the best word of advice is that, especially in an emergency when you’re trying to get out quick, this stuff [on the slide] is designed to get you down as fast as possible, and it burns,” he continued.
“Like to the point where, if you’re sliding down, you are supposed to keep your hands on top of your thighs because if you try to use your hands on the slide, your hands will get burned and your skin could get burned off.”

Similarly, Tommy Cimato – a flight attendant of many years who has gained popularity by sharing travel advice on TikTok– also warned against wearing shorts for a flight.
“Don’t or try not to wear shorts when you’re on an aeroplane,” he told his followers in a viral clip.
“It’s the same thing as the window, you never know how clean it’s gonna be, so if you have pants, you’re gonna have less germs.”
You might think leggings are a good choice then, offering more coverage while remaining relatively comfortable.
But an aviation expert previously said they wouldn’t be her first choice of plane wear for similar safety reasons.
“You might have to escape through a cabin fire or there could be a separate fire on the ground once you leave the aircraft,” the author told The Sun.
“Everyone is wearing yoga pants on planes now, but I avoid all artificial fibres because they are more likely to burn and stick to you if there is a fire.
“I’d advise wearing cotton clothes or anything made of natural fibres.”
