The incident occurred on Monday, January 13th, during a United Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Newark, New Jersey. According to police, Greear, who had reportedly mixed the tranquilizer Xanax with alcohol to calm his nerves about flying, began acting disruptively two hours into the flight. His actions, which included urinating in his seat and down the aisle, forced the pilot to divert the plane to Dublin Airport.

The diversion caused the flight to dump over $30,000 worth of fuel, adding to the financial cost of the incident.
