Perth Airport (PER) posted a record passenger number for 2024, with 16.9 million passengers passing through its terminals the past year.
The airport said a surge in international travelers and continued growth in regional and interstate travel has seen an additional 1.6 million passengers in 2024 compared to 2023.
International passengers made up more than half of the numbers at 56%. In total, international traveler numbers grew 23% year-on-year.
Regional routes continued to perform strongly, growing by almost 7% in 2024, with domestic travel also growing by 6%.
“Perth Airport is a great barometer for the Western Australian economy. If Perth Airport is growing, then the Western Australian (WA) economy is growing and prospering,” Jason Waters, Perth Airport’s CEO said in a statement.
“We believe there is great potential for further growth in passenger numbers as we move towards a potential 20 million passengers a year by 2030. International travel has enormous potential with Perth Airport and Tourism WA about to host almost 1,000 national and international aviation decision-makers for the Routes Asia conference in March,” Waters added.
TransNusa’s direct service to Bali
PER Airport sees its continued growth with the arrival of a new airline, TransNusa, which will provide a direct service to Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS).
Indonesian carrier TransNusa will commence operating the service on March 20, 2025, on an A320 aircraft. Perth will be the carrier’s first Australian route.
“TransNusa will operate the service on its Airbus A320 – which will provide more than 127,000 seats into this popular market per year,” Perth Airport Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer Kate Holsgrove said in a statement.
“With a flight time of just over 3.5 hours, it is easy to see why we have a love affair with the holiday spot Bali and why people return on a regular basis. We look forward to working with the TransNusa team as they increase their capacity into Perth over the next six months and look for other opportunities within the Western Australian market,” Holsgrove added.
TransNusa will initially operate three scheduled flights a week (Monday, Thursday and Saturday). From April 12, 2025, the carrier will increase the frequency to four times a week by adding another flight on Tuesday and eventually increase the frequency to a daily flight from June 1, 2025.
