QUINCY, Ill. (KHQA) — Quincy City Council passed a resolution on Tuesday, January 21 to recommend Contour Airlines as its next air service provider.
However, there was plenty of debate as to where the 12 flights per week should go to if Contour Airlines were to be selected. With the current proposal, it is just Chicago O’Hare to start.
“Instead of going to a new airport that nobody’s flown to recently, [Contour Airlines] wanted to get the reliability to the airport that the passengers have an interest in and options to fly anywhere else in the world,” Mayor Mike Troup said.
Multiple aldermen wanted to get it in writing that a Nashville flight could be added as a second destination after six months of reliable service.
“We have full intention of going to Nashville, whether it be the timeline could be adjusted, I think that’s it, but we need to make it clear that we have intentions of going to Nashville and they need to agree with it whether it be in six months or a year,” First Ward Alderman Eric Entrup said.
As a part of the recommendation, flights to St. Louis are off of the table. Troup said they currently don’t have a timeline as to when the new air service provider could take over, and the recommendation for Contour Airlines is just that. There is no official agreement yet.
“We’ve got to sit down with Contour and work this stuff out, before the city, Contour, and EAS signs anything,” Troup said.
The resolution passed on Tuesday night with just one no coming from Second Ward Alderman Jeff Bergman.
