Porter Airlines has announced it will expand its footprint in the Greater New York area with the launch of a new year-round service to LaGuardia Airport (LGA). Commencing on May 1, 2025, the Canadian carrier will operate up to three daily roundtrip flights from Toronto-Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to the New York airport located to the east of Manhattan Island.
With the addition of the new services, all of Porter’s flights will use LaGuardia’s newest facilities at Terminal B, which has recently undergone a $5.1 billion redevelopment program. The route will be operated by Porter’s 43-strong fleet of 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 regional jets which offer a passenger-friendly 2-2 configuration and free unlimited internet access for all onboard.
The initial flight schedule published by Porter shows the outbound flights departing Toronto at 07:15, 14:50, and 19:25 (not Saturdays), arriving in New York at 08:55, 16:30, and 21:05 respectively. The return flights will leave La Guardia at 06:15 (not Saturdays), 09:55, and 17:30 arriving back in Toronto at 07:55, 11:35, and 19:10 respectively. The route has a great circle distance of 357 miles (571km).
According to a Porter Airlines statement, the new service will provide “convenient connections through Toronto Pearson to Porter’s extensive domestic network, including Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montréal, Ottawa, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Vancouver. Additionally, Porter’s interline partnership with JetBlue will offer passengers numerous onward connections at LGA across the southern US.”
The addition of the new flights to La Guardia will complement Porter’s existing operations at Newark-Liberty International Airport (EWR). Porter has been serving the New York-New Jersey market since 2008 with flights from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) to Newark. In 2023, Porter expanded its Newark service by adding flights from Ottawa International Airport (YOW). The combined routings will offer up to 15 daily roundtrips between the New York area and Toronto’s airport network.
“We have built a strong passenger base over more than 15 years for those traveling between Canada and the New York metropolitan area,” said Andrew Pierce, Vice President of Network Planning and Reporting at Porter Airlines. “The addition of LaGuardia introduces a new dimension to our network, opening more options for existing customers and the ability to attract new ones within the busiest air service corridor connecting Canada and the US,” he added.
“LaGuardia Gateway Partners is excited to welcome Porter Airlines to the award-winning Terminal B,” commented Suzette Noble, Chief Executive Officer of LaGuardia Gateway Partners. “Like all of our terminal partners, Porter shares our commitment to delivering exceptional customer service every day. We look forward to sharing Terminal B’s modern, efficient, and enjoyable guest experience with the airline’s Toronto passengers.”
“We are excited to add Porter Airlines’ service to Toronto Pearson at LaGuardia Airport,” added Tony Vero, General Manager at LaGuardia Airport. “This expanded partnership strengthens our growing network and provides travelers with a seamless and convenient way to connect between New York and Canada.”
“Whether for business or leisure, this service opens exciting travel opportunities, linking two dynamic cities with ease. Along with the transformation of LaGuardia Airport, we are committed to offering an exceptional and modern travel experience, with greater flexibility, more choices, and enhanced connectivity for passengers,” Vero concluded.
