TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Flying in Economy Class has often been the first choice for passengers who want to fly at a lower cost. Economy class is an option with standard prices, but its facilities are certainly not as comprehensive as business and first classes.

As reported by Travel + Leisure, passengers who choose seats in economy class generally have standard legroom, around 75-80 cm (30-32 inches). However, flying in economy class does not necessarily mean sacrificing comfort. Some airlines still provide comfortable and safe flight experiences even though their tickets are cheaper than other classes.

So, is there the world’s best economy-class airline that guarantees the best service for its passengers?

Korean Air Named the Best Economy Class Airline in 2025

AirlineRatings, an aviation website that reviews airlines worldwide, recently unveiled the World’s Best Airline Cabin Class Awards for 2025. These awards recognize airlines that provide the best service from economy to first class.

AirlineRatings evaluates based on services, comfort, and other facilities. Based on these criteria, Korean Air was named the Best Economy Class Airline in 2025.

AirlineRatings CEO Sharon Peterson explained that Korean Air achieved this award due to its exceptional comfort and spacious seating. Peterson even described Korean Air’s economy class seats as the widest in the world, providing more than enough legroom.

Peterson added that while many airlines have added a 10th seat per row on 777 aircraft and reduced the seat pitch in economy class to 31-32 inches (down from the previous 32-33 inches), Korean Air chose not to follow this trend. Peterson explained that they have maintained their original seat configuration and a spacious 33-34 inch seat pitch, offering a more comfortable experience for passengers.

Additional facilities such as providing sandals and larger meal portions became an added value that strengthened Korean Air as the Best economy-class airline in 2025.

It is also worth noting that this South Korean-based airline won the Best Airline 2025 title by AirlineRatings due to its performance in ensuring passenger comfort.

For information, Korean Air is South Korea’s national airline, which began operations in the late 1960s. The airline is often praised for its customer-oriented service and emphasis on hospitality.

Air New Zealand Runner-up

Not only Korean Air, the pride of the Kiwi people, Air New Zealand, also received appreciation from AirlineRatings and was named the runner-up for the Best Economy Class Airline in 2025. This time, Air New Zealand was recognized for its unique innovations with the Skycouch and Skynest bed.

Both of these facilities captured Peterson’s attention, who in her own words called the breakthroughs “game-changing.” The Skynest and Skycouch offer Economy Class passengers extra comfort.

Through Skynest, passengers can enjoy seats equipped with beds, reading lights, and even ventilation. Meanwhile, the Skycouch allows passengers to book seats next to them for additional comfort.
