In October 2021, the Honda Aircraft Company unveiled a new concept aircraft, the HondaJet 2600, at the National Business Aviation Association’s Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition in Las Vegas. The concept’s drawcard was its ability to fly nonstop across the US – the first of any light jet to be able to do so.

A new generation of business jets

Building upon the success of the original HondaJet, the HA-420, the HondaJet 2600 Concept boasts a leap forward in terms of range, performance, and overall capabilities, making it the first transcontinental light business jet of its kind. Adam Gagnon, senior director of marketing at Honda Aircraft, told Robb Report:

“This concept involved a total redesign of the entire cabin. Headroom is 4.5 inches taller and the cabin is an inch wider than the 420. All the little touches add up to a different kind of experience.”

Range, speed, and performance

One of the most significant improvements in the HondaJet 2600 is its ability to cover long distances. With a range of approximately 2,625 nautical miles (4,861.5 km), this aircraft can easily traverse the entire continental United States nonstop, opening up a world of possibilities for business travelers. Whether it’s a coast-to-coast meeting or an international journey with fewer fuel stops, the HondaJet 2600 delivers unmatched convenience.

The enhanced performance of the HondaJet 2600 is not just limited to its range. It boasts a maximum cruise speed of 486 knots (559 mph / 900 km/h) while being 20% more efficient, releasing less carbon emissions than others in its class.

Most notably, the jet is capable of flying at an industry-leading ceiling of 47,000 feet (14,325 meters). Flying at this altitude allows the aircraft to avoid adverse weather and congested airspace, leading to more efficient and on-time flights. Furthermore, the smoother air provides a more comfortable ride for passengers – an important aspect, given passenger comfort is a priority in the design of the HondaJet 2600.

Interior comfort and innovation

Inside the cabin, the HondaJet 2600 offers exceptional levels of passenger comfort and convenience. The spacious cabin – measuring 25.38 feet (7.74 meters) in length and 5.08 feet (1.55 meters) in width – features a versatile and highly customizable seating arrangement that can accommodate up to 11 passengers.

Its 5.21-foot (1.59-meter) high cabin is complemented by generous legroom and a class-leading cabin altitude of 6,363 feet (1,939 meters). The jet also comes with 120 cubic feet (3.4 cubic meters) of baggage space.

The signature pylon-mounted engine design remains, providing passengers a quieter and more comfortable travel experience. Large windows allowing ample natural light and breathtaking views enhance the overall in-flight experience.

Advanced avionics and safety

Safety is paramount in aviation, and the HondaJet 2600 doesn’t disappoint. It comes equipped with systems incorporating electrification and automation, including autothrottle, autobrake, Advanced Steering Augmentation System (ASAS), and Runway Overrun Awareness and Alerting System (ROAAS).

Not only do these state-of-the-art systems provide pilots with improved situational awareness and ease of operation, but they also simplify systems, resulting in lighter weight and easier maintenance in the long term. Furthermore, the advanced systems ensure a safe and enjoyable flying experience for both pilots and passengers.

The HondaJet2600 is set to be certified by 2028.
