Boliviana de Aviación has announced three new interregional routes connecting the South American country further with other nations nearby. The State company will begin flying to Havana (HAV), Caracas (CCS), and Asunción (ASU).


New routes coming

On Wednesday, Boliviana de Aviación announced an expansion of its international route map, with three new destinations that will be served starting in October. It is increasing the international connectivity of Bolivia. The airline’s General Manager, Ronald Casso, said the company will begin flying to Asunción in Paraguay on October 19, while the flights to Havana (Cuba) and Caracas (Venezuela) will start on October 26 and 31, respectively. These routes will be served from Santa Cruz Viru Viru International Airport (VVI). The airline released a video on X (formerly Twitter) announcing the new destinations:

While there is no information regarding weekly frequencies for Asunción and Caracas, Boliviana de Aviación will offer one weekly flight to Havana.

As reported by local media outlets, Ronald Casso added,

“I want to highlight that we are working closely with the Ministry of Tourism because there are several challenges that we have to face in order to recover the economy and revive tourism. When you think about tourism, it’s not just a trip; you have to consider logistics, documentation, and border limits, among other things. There are a series of issues that we need to resolve and address.”

What’s the current route map of Boliviana de Aviación?

Using data from Cirium, Boliviana de Aviación has 802 weekly flights, primarily domestic services. It averages between 104 and 122 daily services with 146.7 seats per departure.

Domestically, Boliviana operates 714 weekly flights. The airline’s most important routes are from Viru Viru to Cochabamba (CCB), with 85 weekly flights, and from Viru Viru to La Paz (LPB), with 74 weekly flights.

Internationally, the airline currently operates eight international routes, six from Viru Viru and two from Cochabamba. From Viru Viru, it flies to Buenos Aires Ezeiza International (EZE), serving ten weekly flights; Sao Paulo Guarulhos (GRU), with seven weekly; Lima (LIM), with seven weekly; Madrid (MAD) with four; Miami (MIA) with eight weekly and Salta (Argentina, SLA), with two weekly. Boliviana de Aviación flies from Cochabamba to Buenos Aires Ezeiza and Sao Paulo Guarulhos, with two and four weekly flights, respectively. The new routes are not yet uploaded to Cirium’s database.

The airline’s fleet

Boliviana de Aviación operates 29 aircraft, according to data from ch-aviation. The airline has two Airbus A330-200s used for long-haul routes as Miami. It has nine Boeing 737-300s, four 737-700s, eight 737-800s, four 767-300ERs, and two CR200LRs.

According to Cirium, the A330-200s can be found in services to Miami. The 767-300s are employed to Madrid and Miami as well. The CRJs are used on the flights to Salta. Finally, the 737s are employed in the remaining international flights from the South American company.
