Honolulu-based Hawaiian Airlines will soon offer new inflight amenity kits and soft goods to passengers on select long-haul flights. The kits are inspired by the carrier’s newest premium cabin that will be featured on its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner next year.
The kits with unique designs will be created with recycled materials. The announcement comes as Hawaiian also plans to debut a retail collection of home goods next month.
A sense of comfort
The carrier partnered with Hawaii-based lifestyle brand Noho Home by Jalene Kanani Bell to develop the new inflight amenity kits and soft goods. The airline unveiled the look of the kits on Monday, saying they are focused on “sustainability and rooted in aloha.” According to Hawaiian, “Noho” means “to be, to dwell, or to come from” in the Hawaiian language. The new kits, which are designed after the Leihōkū Suites on the 787-9, represent three motifs (Kilo Hōkū, Lele, and ʻŌlali) and are expected to bring a sense of place and comfort to passengers onboard.

Hawaiian will begin offering the amenities on November 6th to business class passengers on long-haul international flights and routes to New York, Boston, and Austin in the US mainland. Made with “responsibly sourced materials,” the airline said passengers will be given a recycled plastic canvas bag that contains essential items while an assortment of additional items will be provided à la carte to minimize waste.

Each business class seat will also have a plush quilt showcasing the new signature Kilo Hōkū and ʻŌlali designs, accompanying a mattress pad and pillow. The bedding also reflects sustainability, made with fabric developed from recycled plastic. The Lele design will be featured on the amenity kits offered to passengers in Extra Comfort and Main Cabin seats.
“A connection to home”
Hawaiian’s Senior Director of Brand and Community and Cultural Relations, Alisa Onishi, spoke about the new amenities on Monday.
“Our collaboration with Noho Home was born out of the shared desire to create a sense of place and establish a connection to home while we bring our guests to their destination. We are very proud of the creativity behind these designs and can’t wait for our guests to receive them.”
The designs reportedly come from kilo, a native Hawaiian practice. Kilo Hōkū is inspired by time-lapse photography of the night sky, and ʻŌlali means to “glide smoothly” like a bird in the air or dolphin in the sea, according to the airline. Lele is translated to mean “fly or leap,” celebrating flight and adventure.
Established in 2018, Noho Home aims to reimagine Hawaiian decor. Founder Jalene Kanani Bell specializes in modern Hawaiian aesthetics incorporating art and function.
“I am humbled, honored, and excited to draw inspiration from and bring attention to the art of celestial wayfinding and how indigenous knowledge informs innovation with the Leihōkū collection,” Bell said.
Offering amenities for home
Additionally, Hawaiian indicated that it would extend its partnership with Noho Home, offering a retail collection of home goods. Its collaboration, Hawaiian Airlines X Noho Home Leihōkū Collection, will also launch on November 6th and will be available for purchase inflight or directly through Noho Home, according to the carrier.
“It is our hope that these products spark meaningful conversations and foster connections to our island home, rooted in the spirit of aloha,” Bell concluded.
