Latvian airline airBaltic has logged the first Airbus order at this year’s Dubai Airshow. The carrier signed a firm purchase agreement for 30 A220-300s, along with purchase rights for a further 20 of the type. The airline noted that, combined with the orders it already has outstanding, today’s order will enable it to operate a fleet of 100 A220s by the year 2030.
The airline is the first in the world to operate a fleet of all-Airbus A220 aircraft, having retired types like the Dash 8 and Boeing 737 over the years. Its current fleet comprises 44 A220-300s, with a further 6 to arrive from previous orders, according to ch-aviation. CEO Martin Gauss commented at today’s press conference that the airline has already taken more than 150,000 flights with the A220, and noted the importance of the type to the airline’s future strategy.
“We are clearly showing that airBaltic is putting all its efforts into the A220, and we will only fly with that type. We will continue our growth, because this aircraft has made the difference to airBaltic. It has pushed our brand to new heights in customer satisfaction, and everything we have done in the past seven years since we started flying that aircraft has been super positive.”
