The Attack on Titan franchise takes to the skies in a new collaboration with Japanese airline Star Flyer.
Per Oricon, Star Flyer announced the specially designed “Attack on Titan Special Jet” on Nov. 4, 2023, the same date that Attack on Titan: The Final Chapters Special 2 aired in Japan. Star Flyer (stylized as StarFlyer) was founded in 2002 and operates five routes nationally in Japan, primarily from Haneda in Tokyo to Kitakyushu, where the company is based, as well as in Kansai, Yamaguchi Ube and Fukuoka. It also operates a Nagoya-Fukuoka route. Internationally, the plane flies from either Kitakyushu or Nagoya to Taipei in Taiwan. The Attack on Titan plane is model JA26MC and will serve all these routes between Nov. 4, 2023, and March 31, 2024. Pictures of the plane can be seen below.
The Attack on Titan franchise has announced stranger partnerships in the past, including the G-Fuel Spinal Fluid drink, which opened for pre-orders on June 26, 2023. Nevertheless, planes do feature as an important part of the Attack on Titan anime, including at the turning point of the series when Eren and the former Survey Corps attacked Liberio, and most recently as the mode of travel when Armin, Mikasa and others waged their final battle against Eren.
The Attack on Titan anime first aired in April 2013, spanning 90 episodes and two specials before ending on Nov. 4, 2023. The final specials were directed by Yuichiro Hayashi and Jun Shishido, with music by Hiroyuki Sawano and Kohta Yamamoto. The finale, which underwent some changes from the manga, was universally praised for its emotional plot twist and bittersweet ending, even bringing its voice actors to tears.
Crunchyroll streams all seasons of Attack on Titan, including Attack on Titan: The Final Chapters Special 2. It describes the series as follows: “Known in Japan as Shingeki no Kyojin, many years ago, the last remnants of humanity were forced to retreat behind the towering walls of a fortified city to escape the massive, man-eating Titans that roamed the land outside their fortress. Only the heroic members of the Scouting Legion dared to stray beyond the safety of the walls – but even those brave warriors seldom returned alive. Those within the city clung to the illusion of a peaceful existence until the day that dream was shattered, and their slim chance at survival was reduced to one horrifying choice: kill – or be devoured!”
