While many passengers have rather mundane experiences with cabin crew, those which leave a negative impression on passengers are often the most memorable. Though many may remember flight attendant horror stories, such as those that have been forced off of an aircraft and had their travel experience impaired somehow, there are many positive experiences with cabin staff.

Unsurprisingly, one of the key factors that can mold a positive impression of airline staff comes from humorous interactions. While airline flights, especially long-haul journeys, can be seriously mundane, cabin crew that are able to puncture the passengers’ boredom with humor can leave them with a positive outlook on the airline and its staff.

No more pronounced are these moments than when staff make humorous announcements over the passenger information system for the entire plane to hear. In this article, let’s look at five moments where the cabin crew made an announcement that almost seemed too funny to be real. Be sure to listen to these videos and have a good laugh!

1 Southwest’s David Holmes

A Grammy-worthy performance

While most flight attendants don’t see the routine announcement at the beginning of a flight as an opportunity to give passengers any more than rudimentary information, Southwest Airlines’ David Holmes famously did things rather differently. On multiple occasions, but most notably in 2009 on Flight 372 to Dallas, the flight attendant provided passengers with a welcome in the form of an informative rap song.

Holmes advocated audience participation, having passengers give him a beat on which to perform his rap. Through the brief rap, Holmes informs passengers of food and beverage options available for purchase, the cabin crew and their names, as well as other fundamental information relevant to the flight.

A Memorable Message From Delta Flight Attendants

Undoubtedly, Holmes has left a lasting impression on all passengers fortunate enough to be onboard one of his flights. Furthermore, Holmes’ persona certainly speaks to the warm and welcoming nature of Southwest Airlines’ cabin crew.

2 A sassy safety message

Pushing edgy humor to its limits

When a flight to Puerto Rico ran into severe delays on the apron, one flight attendant took it into his own hands to try and provide the passengers with some light entertainment. The flight attendant pushes acceptable humor to its limits, capitalizing on the fact that the aircraft was on its way to a sunny vacation destination in the Caribbean.

The flight attendant’s words left passengers laughing consistently, and his tongue-in-cheek jokes left many at a loss for words. Despite the fact that his safety instruction was consistently interrupted by hilarious asides, the flight attendant did succeed in his job requirement to inform passengers of the aircraft’s safety features.

3 Frontier’s funny flight attendant

Safety is no joke……except when it is!

Frontier Airlines’ flight staff certainly had a good time making this next safety announcement. Onboard a flight to Colorado Springs, a flight attendant made a safety announcement that left passengers giggling for minutes to follow.

Unusually, the flight attendant even made a point of mocking the carrier’s high ancillary revenue policies, implying that only passengers who paid an additional $49.99 would receive oxygen in the event of cabin depressurization. We can only wonder how well that went over with the cabin crew member’s supervisors at the airline.

Other jokes included brief mentions of how the flight attendant didn’t entirely understand how some safety features worked, such as lights that inflate on passengers’ life vests. Much like the flight attendant headed to Puerto Rico, he was still fully able to communicate all the aircraft’s safety features to passengers.

4 Another witty Southwest flight attendant

There are reasons you aren’t flying American

Another Southwest Airlines flight attendant took the opportunity to deliver an unforgettable safety message while on a flight to Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP). Much like the others, the cabin crew member took the opportunity to mock the cabin’s safety features while also providing informative commentary.

Nonetheless, the most notable moment of this safety announcement certainly involved a precaution against smoking in the aircraft’s lavatories. The flight attendant is quick to note that the fine for doing so is $2,200, ending the joke by stating that if passengers had such a sum to spare, they would likely be flying first class on American Airlines that night. Furthermore, the cabin crew member goes on to indicate that “smoking lounges” are available on each of the aircraft’s two wings.

5 JetBlue’s lip-syncer

Not a word said!

While every other flight attendant on this list has made themselves memorable by using their own creativity to rap or perform live-action in-air standup, the JetBlue flight attendant said not a single word and yet had passengers around him laughing out of their seats. Furthermore, through his unique performance, we were able to learn quite a bit more about how he saw his profession.

While a flight attendant behind him read out a routine flight safety announcement, he mouthed the entire announcement without missing a word, all while performing required safety demonstrations in the process. As a result, passengers were left laughing at just how well the cabin crew member knew the flight safety announcement and how he managed to make a somewhat routine aspect of his job slightly more interesting. There’s only one thing to say about this performance: those passengers were indeed in experienced hands.
