Frequent Flyer programs are a vital part of the airline business, and the value of keeping loyal customers coming back is something that helped many carriers survive through the pandemic. The secret to these programs is keeping them relevant to what members want, and Kazhstan’s Air Astana is doing just that with some new enhancements to its Nomad Club program.

The members have spoken

Yesterday, full-service carrier Air Astana announced significant enhancements to its Nomad Club frequent flyer program, effective May 17, 2024. Air Astana’s Nomad Club was launched on December 1, 2007, and currently has 600,000 members in 155 countries enjoying four membership tiers: Blue, Silver, Gold and Diamond.

Air Astana has listened to its customers and formulated the changes based on their feedback, while also taking the opportunity to further develop the Nomad Club offering. Complicated loyalty programs are a turn-off for users, so it’s good to see that the airline is simplifying some key aspects of its offering in this comprehensive update.

The airline has restructured the methodology for point allocation by switching it to expenditure per fare, moving away from the flight distance allocation criteria. Earning points is one thing, but easily redeeming them for flights is what most frequent flyers are looking for, and this is often an area where airlines complicate the process and let themselves down.

Air Astana Reflects On A Successful 2023 And Sets Up For 2024

In 2023, Air Astana and FlyArystan laid the foundations for more expansion, growth and success in 2024.

The changes will simplify the process for Nomad Club members, with direct accessibility using only one click on the airline’s website homepage. Enhancements are also being made so that the minimum threshold for the acquisition of award tickets or upgrades will be dynamically adjusted in accordance with the flight load.

A short transition period

To make all this happen, there will be a transition period from May 17 to May 20, 2024, during which Nomad Club services, including those at check-in, the reservation center, sales offices, the website and the app, will be temporarily inaccessible. Additionally, the airline advised intermittent access to personal accounts may be experienced from May 21 to May 25 due to the ongoing corporate website upgrade.

For those reasons, Air Astana is encouraging members to complete any planned transactions within their personal accounts by Friday, May 17, 2024. The good news is that members’ statuses and accrued points will seamlessly transfer to the new system without any changes, while points accrued during the transition phase will be automatically credited.

More good news is that the airline aims to conclude the transformation by the end of this summer, and new privileges for Nomad Club members will soon be announced. There is an excellent Nomad Club set of FAQs in the website’s Help Centre that explain the changes and how they will benefit members in far more detail.
