Artificial Intelligence(AI) used in FlightPath 3D
Combined with Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms, an immersive 3D in-flight moving map experience for passengers, complete with detailed aircraft renderings, multiple views, and informative points of interest (POI) content, is provided. FlightPath 3D has introduced an AI-powered feature called AI Flight Feed, which blends real-time flight data with future travel inspirations, providing contextually relevant content for travelers throughout the journey. The AI Feed understands the aircraft’s location, destination, and airline schedules. It also knows how to tailor its suggestions to resonate with each passenger based on these factors.
According to Duncan Jackson, the president of FlightPath 3D, the AI Flight Feed assists in:
“highlighting flight progress, pointing out landmarks below, spotlighting destination events like concerts, suggesting next travel adventures, boosting loyalty rewards, and offering exclusive flight deals. It’s like having a personal in-flight concierge.”

He added that since FlightPath3D pushes information to the passenger via an AI flight feed and makes suggestions based on a set of categories (called “channels”), it has key context about the flight.

According to President Jackson, this so-called ‘flight tracker with Destination Reels’ has become the most popular channel on Southwest’s wireless entertainment solution and led to FlightPath3D’s winning the APEX/IFSA Innovation Award for best in-flight entertainment. Jackson also mentioned how FlightPath 3D redefined in-flight entertainment by harnessing the power of augmented reality and social media style, creating video guides akin to Instagram Reels.
How the FlightPath 3D actually works on the aircraft
When the president of FlightPath 3D was questioned regarding the technique used in FlightData 3D, his response was:
“We take input of the ARINC data, so it just tells me heading, distance to go, origin-destination, also the location of the aircraft. We take your flight schedule; that’s not normally done. So we know how many flights you’re flying to every destination, what your most popular destinations are, what your hubs are. So we take that information feed in as well.”

He also revealed that the internet wasn’t particularly needed for the whole work, and said:
“We feed in the aircraft type and model, which is really important because then I can give you things like the range of the aircraft, and how far it can fly, while it’s giving you interesting information.”
Kids Map in FlightPath 3D keeps the children engaged
Designed for kids who travel, the Kids Map is a feature provided by FlightPath to keep the kids engaged during the travel period. Given how annoying and disturbing kids can be, the Kids Map helps the parents the most by keeping the kids entertained during the flight, bringing more peace to the journey.

Kids Map is built with a colorful, illustrated 3D globe and cartography that uniquely contrasts the core moving map’s advanced satellite and street map imagery. The kids are given the world’s animals in a colorful display with 360° touch gesture interactions. Full 360° view of animals paired with touch gesture interactions enables kids to manipulate viewpoints in and around the natural habitat.
