Now flying nonstop from Athens to New York

In December, Norse Atlantic Airways, a European low-cost carrier, announced it would expand its network by adding a route from Athens to New York City. The airline did not yet operate in Greece but did have several routes to New York. Norse’s two hubs are at London Gatwick Airport and Oslo Airport in Norway.

The new route, which will operate until October 26, was launched yesterday and will operate five times weekly. Norse Atlantic, a sole Boeing 787 operator, will use its widebodies with 338 seats on the route. The flight between Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” and John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York has a block time of 10h40m going west and 9h35m going east.

“We are excited to introduce this new direct service, offering travellers a convenient and efficient way to travel between Athens and New York. With our commitment to delivering exceptional service and comfort, passengers can expect an unforgettable travel experience with Norse Atlantic.” – Bjorn Tore Larsen, Chief Executive Officer and Founder, Norse Atlantic Airways

Norse’s aircraft have two cabins, Economy and Norse Premium, but the airline offers three fare packages, with prices starting at $260 (one-way) in Economy and $497 in Premium.

Additional US operations

According to data from Cirium, an aviation analytics firm, Norse Atlantic (excluding Norse Atlantic UK) has 325 roundtrip flights scheduled to and from the US in July. On eight routes, the airline has 110,522 seats available, departing from Oslo, Paris, Athens, and Berlin.

The airline’s busiest route to the US is from Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport to JFK, with one daily flight throughout the month and a second flight on a few scattered days. Its next-busiest route is from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to JFK, which is flown daily.

When adding Norse’s UK branch, the airline has 625 roundtrip flights scheduled and nearly 212,000 seats available. Overall, the busiest route is from London Gatwick Airport to JFK, with two daily flights. The seat offering on the route totals almost 42,000.

Despite launching a new route this week, it appears that Norse will drop a route from Paris later this year. The airline’s flight from CDG to Miami International Airport was launched in December 2023 and ran through April, a perfect opportunity for Europeans to escape the winter and head to the sunshine in Florida. Now, it appears that Norse will not fly the route this winter.

Another Route Cut: Norse Atlantic Axes Paris CDG To Miami Flights

Simple Flying reported earlier this week that the flight from Paris to Miami is no longer available on its website. Typically, the route change could be confirmed in a database like Cirium, but the airline’s winter schedule is not yet available. The airline has not confirmed the change, but it is highly likely. According to data from the US Department of Transportation DOT), the airline only managed to fill 62% of its seats between December and February.
