Batik Air has announced the cancellation of flights to and from Auckland (AKL) via Perth, effective 19 July 2024, due to operational requirements.
When the service winds up, Air New Zealand will be the only carrier directly connecting Western Australia with NZ.
However, the airline plans to reinstate operations to Auckland with direct flights from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) in December 2024, subject to regulatory approval.
In a statement, Batik Air reaffirmed its commitment to the New Zealand market, recognising NZ’s significance within its network.
With its vibrant tourism sector, robust economy and strong cultural ties to Asia Pacific countries, New Zealand remains a key market for the airline, it stated.
Batik Air CEO Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, expressed regret for any inconvenience and remains confident that the adjustments will strengthen the airline’s operational framework.
He also emphasised the airline’s ongoing collaboration with tourism authorities to support travel and tourism in the high-growth Asia Pacific markets.
“The forthcoming replacement with a direct service will strengthen the connectivity and opportunities for travellers across the Batik Air network and enhance [the] travel experience of our passengers,” he said.
The airline boss added that the move will offer better connectivity to the carrier’s markets from the Middle East, Central Asia and elsewhere in Asia Pacific.
Passengers with reservations for the affected Auckland flights are advised to submit their tickets for a full refund. The airline is offering dedicated assistance during this period of adjustment.

As travel to Bali continues to boom, the carrier kicked off a new service between Canberra and Denpasar last week.
In February, Batik Air announced a decrease in Adelaide-Bali flights while sister carrier Batik Air Malaysia suspended flights to the South Australian hub just seven months after commencing the service.
