Boeing’s aircraft will have a minimal presence at the static display area at the upcoming Farnborough International Airshow, with the company’s products being represented by Qatar Airways and the UK Royal Air Force (RAF) at the event. That will be in contrast with its main competitor, Airbus, which will bring several aircraft to the trade show.

No Boeing test aircraft

The Farnborough International Airshow detailed that Boeing will not have any aircraft on display at the trade event, with only Qatar Airways bringing its Boeing 787-9 on static display during the four-day event between July 22 and July 26, 2024. Meanwhile, the RAF has scheduled two flying displays with its Boeing P-8 Poseidon, which are scheduled to happen on July 22 and July 24. However, the airshow’s site showed that the time for the flypasts is to be concluded (TBC).

In comparison, Airbus has planned to bring a substantial presence to the event. The European plane maker will have an Air India Airbus A350 and unassigned A220-300 and A330-900 commercial aircraft. Furthermore, Airbus has scheduled four flypasts with the A321XLR, as well as a static display of the Aliaca, CAPA-X, C295, Flexrotor drone, H135M, and H160 military and commercial helicopters. At the same time, only the A321XLR has a scheduled flying display. ATR and Embraer are the other two major aircraft manufacturers that will bring their aircraft to the event, with both companies bringing passenger and freighter aircraft, including the ATR 72-600F and Embraer E190 converted freighter.

Presence during the past shows

While the biannual event was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, in 2022, Boeing brought both the 777X and 737 10 MAX to the event, which also included a flying display on several days in July 2022. In 2018, Boeing brought several aircraft, which included jets owned by airlines, including Air Italy, Qatar Airways, and CargoLogicAir, as well as its own aircraft, including the Boeing 737 MAX 7, which is still not certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Nevertheless, the development, first reported by The Air Current, comes at a perilous time for the manufacturer as it attempts to rebuild its quality and safety processes, as well as its reputation, which has been dragged through the mud – once again – since the Alaska Airlines incident in January.

Certifying its aircraft

Nevertheless, while Airbus is expecting aviation authorities, including the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), acting as the state of design, to certify the A321XLR by the Farnborough International Airshow, according to a report by Aviation Week, Boeing has been unable to certify the 737 MAX 7, 737 MAX 10, and 777X.

According to its orders and deliveries data, as of May 31, the manufacturer has amassed 343 and 1,069 net orders for the 737 MAX 7 and MAX 10, respectively. In terms of the 777X, Boeing received 483 net orders for the 777X, which includes the 777-8, 777-8F, and 777-9.
