Oneworld carrier Alaska Airlines has revealed the latest batch of destinations in its Global Getaway promotion. For its second batch of quarterly destinations bookable on partner airlines at a deep discount, the carrier has included locations across four continents.
A little getaway
The Global Getaways promotion began in April with flights to “exotic, sunny beach escapes,” including Fiji, Bali, and Zanzibar. According to Alaska Airlines, members of the carrier’s Mileage Plan frequent flyer program booked nearly 1,000 flights using reduced miles in April. This latest set of destinations looks to continue the trend of offering steeply discounted award redemption opportunities for passengers to use their miles to fly on one of Alaska’s airline partners to one of six destinations.

The promotion runs from today (July 10th) through Wednesday, July 31st. It allows Mileage Plan members to redeem miles for reduced award travel between October 1st, 2024, and January 31st, 2025. The destinations selected vary significantly, but all are accessible via Alaska Airlines and its oneworld and non-alliance airline partners.

Notably, the award tickets can be used to book an additional destination free of charge in each direction for up to two weeks, thanks to Alaska’s generous stopover policy.
Opening up Oman
While the airline did not specify a theme for this quarter’s destination, the cities selected are historical and cultural hotspots. Perhaps the most unique option is Muscat International Airport (MCT) in Oman, as the country does not currently have any direct flights to the United States. Redemptions are available to Mileage Plan members who can fly via Doha (DOH) with oneworld carrier Qatar Airways, which serves Alaska’s hub in Seattle-Tacoma (SEA), among other destinations in the US. The inclusion highlights the fact Oman Air is set to join the oneworld Alliance later this year, potentially adding additional redemption opportunities in the near future.

The destinations are a mix of established cultural hotspots, tourism hubs, and new routes that might benefit from the increased promotion. Travelers looking to explore Europe this winter can redeem miles on flights to Athens International Airport (ATH) and Rome (FCO). The Italy flights are primarily operated by Alaska’s European partners, British Airways and Aer Lingus; the latter is no longer in the oneworld Alliance but remains a codeshare partner with the US carrier. Flights to Greece are also operated by BA and Aer Lingus and supplemented by Royal Jordanian and Qatar Airways services.

Anyone looking to travel to India over the holidays is also set to benefit from the new promotion. Flights from the US to Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) are available via Doha and London Heathrow (LHR). Award ticket prices on the route vary dramatically, ranging from 30,000 to 200,000 miles in each direction. Notably, Simple Flying’s research found that it is often possible to book for fewer miles in a premium cabin, although it can be offset by a higher cash surcharge.

How To Use Alaska Airlines Miles On Partner Flights: The Simple Flying Guide
Alaska Airlines is famous for having an excellent loyalty program that can be used to book and earn flying on many partner flights.
The transpacific link to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) will take advantage of the carrier’s partnership with STARLUX Airlines, which will begin flights to Seattle next month. The two companies submitted an application to the US Department of Transportation last month requesting access to each other’s flight codes between any point in the US and any point in Taiwan and beyond, beginning on August 16th.
Closer to home, the final destination announced is Guadalajara (GDL) in western Mexico. The third largest city in Mexico, Guadalajara, is the capital of Jalisco, which is known as the birthplace of tequila and mariachi music. In addition to newly-announced flights from Fresno, Alaska will serve GDL daily from Los Angeles (LAX) and San Jose (SJC) this winter, based on data from Cirum.
