Avelo Airlines, one of the youngest airlines in the United States, has been nominated as the country’s most reliable airline in 2024 following a great operational result in June. The airline had the best on-time performance in the US last month.

Avelo Airlines has been operating for just over three years. One of the youngest airlines in the United States (US), Avelo has carried nearly five million passengers despite having a small fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft. The airline has focused on routes not already provided by other airlines and has reached a network with 49 destinations.

Earlier today, Avelo announced that it had been named the most reliable airline in the country during the first half of the year. This is based on data from Anuvu, which the Wall Street Journal uses to publish its annual airline rankings. In addition to having the best on-time performance in the country in June and the lowest cancelation rate, Avelo was the best-performing airline in the first half of the year.

In June, 84.3% of Avelo’s flights arrived on time (meaning they arrived within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival. The second-highest airline last month only had an on-time arrival rate of 78.62%, while the national average was 73.6%.

About Avelo’s network

According to the airline’s website, Avelo has a fleet of 16 Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft. Seven are of the -700 variant and another nine are of the -900, capable of carrying 149 and 189 passengers, respectively. Both are equipped with the CFM International CFM56 engines.

Data from aviation analytics firm Cirium shows that Avelo has 1,746 roundtrip flights scheduled this month. The airline’s seat offering is just over 297,000. The busiest route in Avelo’s network is from Tweed New Haven Airport, where Avelo is the only airline providing scheduled commercial passenger service, to Orlando International Airport. Though the route does not operate every day, when it does operate, most days have two roundtrips.

Not one route in the network operates daily, and Avelo’s second-busiest route departs from Hollywood-Burbank International Airport in Southern California. Avelo connects Burbank to Santa Rosa Airport in Northern California but its schedule varies. This week, Avelo operated one flight on Sunday, two flights today, two on Thursday, and one on Friday. Avelo is not the only airline serving Santa Rosa, nor is it the only airline connecting Santa Rosa and Burbank. Alaska Airlines has five weekly flights on Embraer E175 aircraft, configured with 76 seats.
