Flair Airlines is an ultra-low-cost Canadian airline founded in 2005. While most of its destinations are domestic, it does have some international flights to the United States (as well as further afield to Mexico, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic). Here are the US routes Flair operates with Boeing 737 MAX 8 airliners. Flair Airlines claims to have saved Canadians some $311 million (USD) in 2023 and is ranked as the most reliable airline in Canada.

According to data provided by Cirium, an analytics company, Flair operated five US destination flights with B-737 MAX 8s in July 2024 (it operates more seasonally and other routes with its non-Max 737 aircraft). Flair Airlines is expanding its destinations in the United States, resuming flights between Canada’s Edmonton and Arizona’s Phoenix. Flair Airlines is based in Edmonton, Alberta, and operates a fleet of 20 airliners, including two Boeing 737s and 18 Boeing 737 MAX 8 airliners.

Flair operates flights from Vancouver to Los Angeles and San Francisco. From Toronto, it operates flights to Miami (Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport), New York City (JFK), and Las Vegas (LAS).

The shortest international flight operated by Flair is with a Boeing 737 MAX 8 from Toronto Pearson International Airport to New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) at 366 miles. The longest route is almost 2,000 miles (1,944 km) from Toronto to Las Vegas. The other three flight distances are 1,080 miles from Vancouver to Los Angeles, 800 miles from Vancouver to San Francisco, and 1,214 miles from Toronto to Miami.

Apart from Flair’s Toronto – Las Vegas flight, all the flights depart 6 to 7 times a week. The Vancouver to San Francisco flight runs every day except Saturday (resulting in 1,134 seats per week). The three flights to Miami, New York, and Los Angeles depart daily with a total of 1,323 weekly seats.

Data from Circum shows that only one flight was operated per week on the Toronto—Las Vegas route (on Tuesdays), resulting in only one operation per week and 189 seats. This is a curious day to operate flights to Las Vegas, as Sin City is a noted weekend destination. It is unclear why Flair flies to Las Vegas on one of the week’s quietest days.

Boeing 737 MAX

The Boeing 737 MAX is the fourth generation of the Boeing 737 family of narrow-body airliners. It is one of the most popular airliners in the world (it competes with Airbus’ A320neo). Still, the airliner has become mired in controversy following two deadly crashes and other high-profile failings in recent years.

The MAX series comes in four variants (MAX 7, MAX 8, MAX 9, and MAX 10). The MAX 8 replaces the 737-800, has a longer fuselage than the MAX 7, and had its first commercial flight in 2017. The MAX 8 has a range of 3,500 nautical miles and maximum seating for up to 210 passengers (depending on configuration).
