Summary

  • Emirates is the largest operator of the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777, offering a massive seat capacity.
  • The Boeing 777-300ER is a game-changer, with multiple configurations, serving nearly 100 cities worldwide.
  • Key routes like Dubai-Dallas exceed 7,400 miles with daily flights and a substantial seat capacity.

With an extensive global network, there is no question that Dubai-based Emirates is one of the leading operators of larger passenger aircraft. As one of the few carriers with an all-widebody fleet, Emirates is notably the largest operator of two aircraft types: the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777. While these aircraft have been responsible for the carrier’s growth in new markets, they have also transformed the passenger experience. Additionally, they have large capacities, allowing the airline to offer a massive amount of seats annually.

Emirates currently operates two variants of the 777, but formerly had a total of five. The carrier still operates the rare 777-200LR and also has the more popular 777-300ER. According to the airline, the planes are flown to nearly 100 cities on six continents. Additionally, they have served as the carrier’s “historic backbone” of its fleet. The 777-300ER, specifically, has been a game-changer as it has multiple configurations of the aircraft.

According to aeroLOPA, Emirates has six different seating layouts for the 777-300ER. The version with the most seats is arranged in a two-class format with 42 business class seats and 386 seats in economy. The longest routes the aircraft type is deployed on in August exceed 7,400 miles, according to aviation analytics and data firm Cirium. However, the airline will not use its high-density 428-seat 777-300ER on these routes. Additionally, Emirates is the sole carrier on these routes, meaning it is responsible for the entire market share.
