Spirit Airlines is drastically changing its offerings later this month, introducing more premium options. The airline will offer four new fare options and will no longer have bare-bone fares.

Focusing on premium options

Earlier today, Spirit Airlines rocked the airline world with the news that it was making some big changes. The ultra-low-cost carrier announced that it was adding more premium selections and is confident it will improve the travel experience in several ways. According to Ted Christie, the airline’s president, Spirit listened to its customers when considering the changes.

Starting on August 16, Spirit customers will have new fare options when booking, and the airline plans to launch the newly transformed guest experience by the 27th. From now on, Spirit will offer four fares, Go Big, Go Comfy, Go Savvy, and Go. With the new fares, the Big Front Seat will no longer be offered unbundled. The airline highlighted that all fare options would have no change or cancelation fees.

The Go Big fare is the most premium offering, which includes the Big Front Seat, snacks and drinks (including alcoholic beverages), checked baggage (one), priority check-in and boarding, and WiFi access with streaming. Go Comfy is the next-best fare and is brand-new. Those who select the Go Comfy fare will have a blocked middle seat, like European business class, a checked bag, priority boarding, and one snack and beverage (non-alcoholic).

Go Savvy will allow passengers to choose whether to have one checked or carryon bag and will have access to seat selection during boarding. Finally, Go is the most bare-bones option. Nothing is included, but passengers have the option to add checked bags, purchase WiFi, select seats, and purchase snacks and beverages.

“We’re unveiling a new era in Spirit’s history and taking low-fare travel to new heights with enhanced options that are unlike anything we’ve offered before. We listened to our Guests and are excited to deliver what they want: choices for an elevated experience that are affordable and provide unparalleled value.” – Ted Christie, President and Chief Executive Officer, Spirit Airlines

Changing the passenger experience

In early June, Spirit announced changes to its guest experience. It increased its checked baggage weight allowance to 50 pounds, eliminated change and cancelation fees, and extended the travel voucher expiration to 12 months if issued after June 3. Additionally, the airline announced today that it is creating a new boarding process and will implement it late in August. Now, there will be five boarding groups.

As part of Spirit’s goal to offer more premium options for its passengers, priority boarding will be available for those traveling on the Go Big and Go Comfy fares, Free Spirit World Elite Mastercard holders, and active-duty military members. A new priority check-in experience will be added at more than 20 US airports.

The new check-in will be available for the Go Big fare, as well as Free Spirit Gold Members, and credit card holders. At the participating airports, Spirit will have a dedicated lane that will provide front-of-the-line access to the first available agent.
