Boeing has selected Kelly Ortberg as its new President and CEO after Dave Calhoun announced he would step down in 2024. The selection was first hinted at by The Air Current yesterday and confirmed by Boeing just now. Calhoun has been President and CEO since January 2020.
Ortberg was previously the CEO of Collins Aerospace and Rockwell Collins, as well as an advisor to the CEO of RTX. According to the latter, he currently co-heads an organization hosting annual school robotics competitions.Ortberg will begin the top job at Boeing on August 8th, 2024.
Boeing’s new management
Dave Calhoun announced his intention to step down as the CEO and President of Boeing in March 2024. The news came following a slew of incidents, most notably an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX losing a door mid-flight. There has been much speculation as to who would take the top job since Calhoun announced his resignation, and now we have an answer.
Kelly Ortberg is set to take the top job in just over a week, begining as the CEO and President on August 8th. Commenting on his appointment, Ortberg remarked,

Boeing has a tremendous and rich history as a leader and pioneer in our industry, and I’m committed to working together with the more than 170,000 dedicated employees of the company to continue that tradition, with safety and quality at the forefront. There is much work to be done, and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
