While you probably booked that flight to Paris for the Le Relais de l’Entrecôte steak frites and not the Air France in-flight cheese plate, airline food has have come a long way.
However, all airplane food is not in the same stratosphere. According to MoneySuperMarket, which conducted a recent study on the subject using thousands of reviews, Kuwait Airways, Oman Air, and Middle East Airways are superior to the rest.
After combing through 27,000 customer reviews of 100 airlines, these are the 20 airlines with the best in-flight food:
1. Kuwait Airways
2. Oman Air
3. Middle East Airlines
4. Air Algérie
5. airBaltic
6. Aegean Airlines
7. JetBlue
8. Turkish Airlines
9. Air Mauritius
10. Swiss International Air Lines
Asiana Airlines, Belavia, Austrian Airlines, Qatar Airlines, Emirates Air, JetBlue Mint, Eva Air, Etihad Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, and TAROM all made the list too—in that order, ranking from 11 to 20.
Kuwait Airways nabbed the top slot thanks to its 8.6 out of 10 rating across all cabin classes, meaning frequent flyers were impressed with everything. The carrier offers everything from multi-course options in economy to higher-end options like lobster and beef in its “Royal Class” service. Meanwhile, Oman Air and Middle Eastern Airlines trailed shortly behind on the list with 8.44 and 8.39 ratings, respectively.
The U.S. only had two airlines make the cut—JetBlue and JetBlue Mint—and the Middle East dominated the list. Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad, and Gulf Air were also praised for their impressive culinary selection. They each scored at least 7.4 on average or higher.
Food is obviously an important variable in the travel experience (for some flyers more than others), so it should come as no surprise that several of the airlines with the best in-flight food also intersected with the winners of World Airline Awards, which ranks carriers countless factors beyond just menu.
Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Swiss International Airlines scored in the top 10, while several (including Singapore Airlines, ANA All Nippon Airways, and Japan Airlines) made the top airlines list, but not the top in-flight food list.
