In celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Baltic Way this August, the Latvian national airline airBaltic invites to participate in a special voting contest to name its Airbus A220-300 fleet after cities from Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. In total, 48 aircraft will be named, with 16 representing each Baltic country. Voting is open online from August 5 to August 22.

It is noteworthy that also those aircraft that have been wearing the names of Latvian cities since 2018 will be renamed.

The contest is open to anyone from any country and the voting can be done once a day. Participants can vote for any city that is located in the territory of Latvia, Estonia, or Lithuania and has official city status, regardless of their own nationality, citizenship, or place of residence. The names of the top 48 cities will be announced on August 23.
The Baltic Way was a peaceful political demonstration which took place on August 23, 1989 when approximately two million people joined their hands forming a 600 km long human chain through the Baltic countries. This act demonstrated their unity in the efforts towards freedom from the Soviet Union.
