Philadelphia – Doha
A route that AA started a year ago
American Airlines offers 8,550 seats on its fifth-longest route in September, as it takes from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to Hamad International Airport (DOH), and from DOH to PHL. American Airlines previously operated to Doha from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York. The airline looked to optimize its network,
as American Airlines was quoted by Simple Flying
:
“As part of a continuous evaluation of our network, American Airlines will shift its Doha service from New York to Philadelphia starting Oct. 29. This new nonstop PHL-DOH service will offer connections from more than 80 destinations across North America to Doha. As part of American’s partnership with Qatar Airways, customers can connect in Doha to destinations across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.”

Texas – Incheon
Identical aircraft, and number of seats as the DOH-PHL route
AA’s fourth-longest route for the month of September voyages from the primary airport of Texas, from
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
to the largest airport in South Korea- Incheon International Airport (ICN).
The number of seats offered and the seats per departure on AA’s PHL-DOH and DFW-ICN routes are exactly identical. However, the ASMs offered on the latter route are slightly greater.

Currently, Korean Air is the only other carrier operating direct flights on this route. Korean Air and American Airlines offer flights on this 6,842-mile route on their Boeing 787-9s.
Neither carrier offers a one-stop flight on this route. According to flightroutes.com, some airlines offering a one-stop flight on the DFW-ICN route include:
- United Airlines via San Francisco (SFO)
- Aero Mexico via Mexico City (MEX)
- Delta Air Lines (DL) via Seattle (SEA), Detroit (DTW), Atlanta (ATL), or Minneapolis (MSP).
3
New York – Delhi
The route with the highest seats per departure on the list
AA’s operations between JFK and
Indira Gandhi Airport (DEL)
offer more than 300 seats per departure – the only route on the list where more than 300 seats per departure are available.
American Airlines started operating this route with its Boeing 777-300 ERs in 2021. Data from Cirium also reveals that before starting its operations in DEL again, AA last flew to New Delhi in 2012.

American Airlines operated the DFW-PVG route in 2020, but the pandemic brought this route to a standstill for AA. AA only resumed operations from DFW to PVG and back last year. When the services started, AA had a smaller number of operations between Dallas and Shanghai, as
the airline was quoted to have said
:
“This weekend, we adjusted our summer 2023 schedule to China. We’ll continue to direct service between Dallas/Fort Worth and Shanghai twice weekly. However, all other services to China will remain paused. We will continue to adjust schedules to China this year based on market demand and changes in government regulations.”

Los Angeles to Sydney

The number of seats (per departure) offered in AA’s operations from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Sydney International Airport (SYD) are identical to the carrier’s operations between Delhi and New York. However, the ASMs on the LAX-SYD route are almost one and a half million higher.
