The Ministry for National Economy (NGM), responsible for consumer protection, has announced an extraordinary investigation into airlines to protect the rights of Hungarian families and eliminate ongoing issues. The ministry is committed to addressing legal violations by airlines, according to their official statement.

Investigation into airlines in Hungary

According to AIRportal.hu, the NGM reported that thanks to previous measures taken by the government and the ministry, the chaos that had plagued airports has diminished, resulting in fewer flight delays and cancellations. However, the ministry acknowledged that problems remain within the airline industry, leading to ongoing consumer dissatisfaction.

To address these concerns, the ministry has ordered a special investigation by the Budapest Capital Government Office, which holds the authority to oversee the operations of airlines. This investigation will focus on ensuring compliance with regulations regarding flight delays, cancellations, and handling consumer complaints. It will also investigate unfair and misleading business practices.

In cases where violations are identified, the government office has the power to impose strict penalties and significant fines as a deterrent to prevent future breaches.

The Hungarian government emphasised its dedication to protecting its citizens and families. The Ministry for National Economy reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that consumer protection authorities continue to act firmly against any violations that threaten the rights of Hungarian families.
