A FAMILY’s dream $8,500 cruise turned into a nightmare amid a row over delayed flights.
The ship sailed away without them – as they watched helplessly from the dock.
The family – that was booked into a flight to Florida from John F. Kennedy Airport – ended up getting a refund from the cruise.
But, Delta Airlines initially refused to refund their delayed flights, according to ABC7, which investigated the complaint.
The firm did, however, later provide a full ticket refund, and said in a short statement that it “apologized for the delay that led to their circumstance.”
One of those affected, Tisha LaSaine, approached the broadcaster as the cruise was booked to mark a 50th birthday and a college send-off.
Post Office worker LaSaine said she and her mom had been saving a year for the week-long vacation.
“I’m about family. I’m just about family,” she said today.
Her family was booked for a week-long cruise out of Florida.
“We took off at 11:40 a.m. Our flight was scheduled for 9:54,” said Kaseem Miller, LaSaine’s son.
Their flight had been scheduled to land at 12:51 p.m. but there was a problem with the crew, according to Delta.
The airline emailed passengers about the affected flight from JFK to Orlando, saying it was “delayed due to a crew issue,” said the broadcaster.
If the family had arrived at the scheduled time, this would have provided them a few hours’ grace before their cruise was to leave Cape Canaveral’s port at 3:30 p.m.
“I went to my mom and told her, ‘mom I don’t think we’re going to make it’,” LaSaine said.
“I think I cried more than the kids and it was for them.”
The cruise quickly refunded their money.
Vacation nightmares
There have been some truly horrible holidays…
A family claimed it contracted parasitic worms after staying at a five-star resort in the Caribbean.
Passengers on a flight at 35,000ft were left fighting for breath after toxic fumes filled the cabin.
Two students became mysteriously ill at a bar and one was hospitalized after their dream Mexican vacation turned into a horror story.
A traveler’s dream vacation turned into a nightmare when harsh mudslides and floods almost killed them.
But they hit a hurdle with Delta upon their return to New York when they requested a flight refund for failing to reach their cruise in adequate time.
At first, the airline only provided an e-credit – for just one way – and for only $250 per person.
“I was like, that’s a lot of money for me to lose that I put out in a few months,” LaSaine said.
ABC7 said that after it contacted Delta, the airline paid the remaining balance for the full ticket refund, which was $2,600.
“Delta apologized for the delay that led to their circumstance,” a spokesperson told the channel.
“I was happy, I was so happy,” LaSaine said.
The U.S. Sun has contacted Delta for further comment.
