Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) on Tuesday (September 3) asked SpiceJet to settle its outstanding dues as soon as possible, according to a PTI report. However, SpiceJet maintains that there are no immediate payment issues.
DIAL, which manages Indira Gandhi International Airport, has yet to officially comment on the situation. Sources indicated that DIAL has requested the airline to clear its dues promptly, though the exact amount of the outstanding payments was not immediately clear.
SpiceJet is currently operating with a reduced fleet of approximately 22 planes due to its ongoing financial and legal difficulties.
SpiceJet says no immediate concerns on payments
A SpiceJet spokesperson confirmed that the airline is operating flights as usual and that its payments to DIAL are being made according to their regular schedule.
The spokesperson also refuted claims that DIAL has imposed a two-day deadline for payment, stating that communications with DIAL are routine and there are no immediate concerns.
Previously, on August 12, Mumbai airport operator MIAL retracted an advisory about potential flight disruptions involving SpiceJet, which the airline addressed by resolving a minor financial issue with the operator.
SpiceJet under DGCA’s microscope
On August 29, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced that SpiceJet would be subject to increased spot checks and night surveillance to ensure operational safety.
SpiceJet, which is currently grappling with financial and legal challenges, was placed under enhanced surveillance by DGCA last week.
