Dan Bilzerian is one of the most followed internet personalities. The Instagram personality and entrepreneur has grown to over 30 million followers on Instagram.

The controversial figure was born on December 7, 1980. His father, Paul Bilzerian, was a corporate takeover specialist, and was sometimes considered to be a corporate raider on Wall Street. Paul had grown his net worth to around $50 million, which provided Dan with an affluent childhood.

Dan initially decided to pursue a degree in Business, similar to his father’s, after graduating from high school. However, he dropped out of the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, to pursue a professional poker career.

Bilzerian claims that this is where he has accumulated the majority of his wealth. However, many people, including other former professional poker players, have disputed this claim. Many believe he acquired the majority of his wealth from his father, although Paul has declared bankruptcy several times over the years.

He also recently founded Ignite, a company that sells electronic cigarettes, alcohol, and a variety of other products. This company, along with his previously accumulated wealth, have helped to contribute to his net worth of over $200 million.

Because of his extreme wealth, it is no wonder Bilzerian operates a private jet. Owning or operating a business jet provides travelers with the ultimate flexibility, allowing them to fly openly to a wide variety of airports around the world.

This aircraft also helps contribute to his famously lavish lifestyle, which he is quick to promote online through his social media. Let’s take a closer look at this controversial figure’s private jet.

About the Gulfstream IV

Gulfstream initially wanted to design a new business jet in the 1980s, and more specifically, a larger variant of the Gulfstream III. The new business jet was set to have a stretched fuselage among other upgrades.

Gulfstream, with the help of Grumman, began work on this new business jet in the early 1980s. The program was officially announced in March 1983, and was designated as the Gulfstream IV shortly after.

The first prototype Gulfstream IV conducted its maiden flight in September 1985. The aircraft model received its type certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on April 22, 1987. It was introduced shortly after with the serial number 1000.

Since then, the aircraft has undergone several upgrades. At serial number 1500, Gulfstream introduced the G400, which was introduced at a similar time as the G300, a shortened variant.

Gulfstream introduced the G450, an upgrade to the G400, and the G350, an upgrade to the G350, in 2004. These aircraft utilized an upgraded cockpit that included a heads-up display (HUD).

Gulfstream eventually ended production of the Gulfstream IV series in 2018. Overall, it was in production from 1985 through 2018. Over 900 aircraft were produced. This aircraft was adopted for several types of operations. Many governments and militaries utilize the aircraft for executive transport, including the following operators:

  • Chilean Air Force
  • Japan Air Self-Defense Force
  • Pakistan Air Force
  • United States Air Force
  • United States Navy
  • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

Design and performance of the Gulfstream IV

As mentioned, the Gulfstream IV was a stretched version of the Gulfstream III. The GIV also featured a heavily upgraded wing, which lowered the aircraft’s weight and improved its aerodynamic surfaces. However, the GIV used the same flight controls as the GIII.

Additionally, Gulfstream utilized two new engines on the GIV. Gulfstream chose two Rolls-Royce Tay turbofan engines to power the aircraft. Each of these powerful engines provides the aircraft with approximately 13,850 pounds of thrust. These engines help the aircraft achieve the following performance specifications:

Maximum capacity

19 passengers

Length

88 feet four inches

Height

24 feet five inches

Wingspan

77 feet ten inches

Maximum takeoff weight (MTOW)

73,200 pounds

Maximum speed

Mach 0.88 (581 miles per hour)

Range

4,220 nautical miles (4,856 miles)

Service ceiling

45,000 feet

Early models of the GIV, like Bilzerian’s aircraft, were powered by the Honeywell SPZ 8000 avionics suite. This was upgraded to the Honeywell SPZ 8400 avionics package in later models. This powerful avionics system made the Gulfstream IV the first business jet that utilized an entire glass cockpit.
