JAL will initially train a group of 12 pilots on the A350 Virtual Procedure Trainer. This five-year initiative highlights the Japanese flag carrier’s commitment to safety and high operational standards. Speaking about the partnership, JAL Flight Training Vice President, Hiroshi Horikawa, said
“Integrating the A350 VPT into our training curriculum will significantly elevate the quality of our flight crew training and enhance JAL’s commitment to safety. We are excited about this new chapter in our collaboration with Airbus.”
The VPT developed by Airbus offers virtual environments designed to meet the airline’s specific requirements, making it an essential tool to enhance the proficiency and preparedness of the flight crew. With the VPT, training can be conducted at any time and location, which helps reduce disruptions and costs by minimizing training expenses and aircraft downtime.

The Virtual Procedure Trainer is designed to familiarize trainees with the cockpit earlier and more often and learn and rehearse procedures, including the walk-around. The new agreement highlights Japan Airlines’ commitment to pioneering advanced training technologies and reaffirms Airbus’ position as
a leader in innovative aviation training solutions
. Airbus Head of Commercial Services for APAC, Balinda Zhang, added,
“We are thrilled to support JAL with the implementation of the A350 VPT. Airbus is dedicated to providing exceptional support throughout the integration process to ensure a seamless transition. Our aim is to deliver a training solution that not only meets but exceeds JAL’s expectations, contributing to the airline’s continued excellence in flight crew training.”
According to Airbus, VPT can be purchased as a stand-alone solution or with the MATe suite, Airbus’ mobile flight training solution which covers the complete flight ground curriculum, from initial to recurrent training. With both solutions, Japan Airlines will continue to enhance the operational capabilities of its Airbus flight crew.
