Until the weekend’s schedule update, British Airways
had not planned to fly the Airbus A380 from London Heathrow Airport
to Boston Logan International Airport
next summer. That has now changed, with the 469-seat double-decker quadjet returning at the end of March.
BA’s A380s to Boston
The A380 operates Heathrow-Boston daily until October 29, 2024, the last day of the northern aviation winter season based on IATA slot seasons. BA had not scheduled the superjumbo’s return next year. However, now it has, with the type returning to the route on March 30, 2025, the first day of aviation’s summer 2025. It will replace the Boeing 787-10, freeing up an entire frame for redeployment.

As usual, the A380 will be on BA213/BA212. The schedule varies depending on the day and month. However, the most common schedule next summer will be as follows, with all times local:
- Heathrow-Boston: BA213, 14:30-16:50 (7h 20m)
- Boston-Heathrow: BA212, 19:10-06:50+1 (6h 40m)

London-Boston service
When all carriers are combined, booking data shows that the city pair had 651,000 roundtrip point-to-point passengers in the year to July 2024, or 1,784 passengers daily, excluding seasonality.
More than 260,000 passengers connected to other flights at Heathrow (Mumbai and Delhi were the leading origins and destinations). Over 125,000 passengers transferred to another flight in Boston (Washington Reagan was the number one market).

Flights are down versus 2024
When JetBlue’s summer seasonal Gatwick service is back, airlines will have nine daily London-Boston flights. However, suppose April to September 2025 is examined. In that case, Cirium data shows that 1,528 take-offs will occur, down by 7% year-on-year from the later start of JetBlue’s Gatwick operation and Virgin’s lower frequency in the shoulder month of April.

It’s always worth examining how things have changed compared to before the pandemic in 2019. Take-offs have risen by 5%, partly because average seats/departure have fallen from 280 to 265, mainly from JetBlue’s entry.
BA’s current A380 plan: June 2025
While it may change again, the latest plan for June 2025, as of October 14, shows that the double-decker quadjet will be used to the following destinations. Seven daily take-offs are planned from Heathrow, down from eight departures in June 2024.
- Johannesburg: double daily
- Boston: daily
- Los Angeles: daily
- Miami: daily
- San Francisco: daily
- Washington Dulles: daily

Comparing June 2025 with June 2024 shows that, as previously reported, Dallas/Fort Worth will no longer see the A380 (the A350-1000 will now replace the 777-200ER that was scheduled). Singapore has BA’s A380s until May 2025, but it may be extended again. However, this is unlikely as Johannesburg A380 flights double to twice daily in June.
