Jokes about Spirit Airlines have become internet canon over the years, joining the likes of Ray J’s “unbreakable” glasses, Joe Budden coining the phrase “two pack of a**“, and more. While it may seem ridiculous to believe that Spirit makes passengers fly their planes, or offer folding chairs for seating, no one could have predicted their latest incident.

The airline was conducting business as usual as it transported passengers from Dallas to Los Angeles; that is, until a stray animal was spotted on the flight. A customer looked up toward an overheard bin and saw the silhouette of a rat’s snout and feet through an illuminated panel.

“What in the f**k?” a passenger could be heard asking as someone recorded the rat running away. Understandably, they experienced mixed emotions and dubbed the rodent a “super rat” amid their bewildered reaction. “Ni**as got a whole rat, a super rat, on a motherf**king plane,” one passenger said. Other passengers could be heard laughing and shrieking, rightfully so. Watch the video below.

Fortunately, the “super rat” wasn’t in the actual cabin running by passengers. TMZ obtained a statement from Spirit Airlines: “We are aware of the video and are taking steps to address this matter.”

While they may go through all proper measures to keep future flights rat-free, the internet never forgets and the damage is already done.

“Of course it was Spirit Airlines….they are one step above flying with loose chickens like Indiana Jones,” one X user wrote. “He probably been all over the world,” an Instagram user wrote with laughing emojis. New York City and rat jokes go hand-in-hand, so it was no shock that another Instagram user wrote “He definitely got on at the layover in New York!!” Someone else said that the rat belonged there because people were flying on “Chuck E Cheese Airlines.”

In what has already been a crazy year for music, entertainment, sports, and politics, Spirit Airlines has found a way to earn a spot on many end-of-year lists for wild moments. Of all the wild things that have happened in airports or on flights, this may take the cake…or cheese, more appropriately.
