United Airlines has started operating its busiest winter schedule in history, with a strong focus on Southern Europe, ski destinations, and more.

A record-breaking winter

Today, United Airlines
launched its highly anticipated route from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Marrakesh Menara Airport (RAK). On Sunday, the airline will begin flying from Tokyo to Cebu, and other international flights will be launched later this winter. However, United is not just expanding overseas. More than 140 United States (US) airports will have increased United service.

More flights for skiing

Domestically, United is focusing on expanding to ski and sun destinations. This winter, United’s network offers almost three times the number of flights to ski destinations than other American carriers. Not only will capacity be increased with additional flights, but some airports will have flights on larger aircraft.

Currently, SkyWest Airlines is working on certification for the Embraer E175s to land at Aspen/Pitkin County Airport. Previously, SkyWest has been operating the Bombardier CRJ700s, but United wanted to increase its capacity at the Colorado airport. Last year, Aspen broke its annual passenger record despite not having a record number of flights.

Not only does United plan to fly the E175 in and out of Aspen, but Eastern Sierra Regional Airport (BIH) will also have flights operated by the time. The airport is located near Mammoth Lakes, one of the most popular winter sports destinations in the state of California. Service from Denver to Bishop/Mammoth will now run twice weekly through the end of April 2025.

Other changes include a new route from Dulles International Airport (IAD) to

Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN). In February and March, United will operate a seasonal weekend service from Chicago to Gunnison/Crested Butte in Colorado. Also in February, Los Angeles will be connected to Kalispell, Montana. United will operate a daily flight from LA to Montrose/Telluride from December to January.

Increased services include:

  • Another flight from Newark to Bozeman
  • Second daily flight from Newark to Jackson Hole from December through March
  • Twice daily flights from Los Angeles and San Francisco to Sun Valley, Idaho

Commenting on the historic winter schedule, Patrick Quayle, United’s Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances, said,

“This winter, we’re offering more flights to more destinations to give customers the widest range of places to explore. Whether that’s adventuring somewhere new overseas, unwinding with some sun or enjoying the best ski towns in the country, we’re pleased to offer easy access to the top destinations for winter getaways.”

Fun in the sun

Of course, sunny destinations are not forgotten in the winter. After all, not everyone likes the cold. According to United, it is increasing operations to the West Coast by offering about 13% more seats to warm-weather destinations.
