HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Following the landmark merger with Alaska Airlines, dozens of employees with Hawaiian Airlines are expected to separate with the company by the end of the year, a spokesperson for Hawaiian Air confirmed.

We’re told 73 non-contract employees declined or didn’t get an offer to continue with the combined company, that includes 57 employees in Honolulu.

The airline said this comes after several weeks of holding individual conversations with the non-contract employees about their future with the combined organization.

Currently, Hawaiian employs about 1,400 non-contract staff which means the vast majority has a permanent or interim position moving forward.

Those not continuing will have their employment end on Dec. 17.

Hawaiian Air released a statement which said in part: “Interim offers, which are generally aligned to an integration milestone, extend for at least six months from the date we completed the combination, and we hope to retain most people for a year or longer, including through permanent positions… We know this is a very challenging time for our team members and we are committed to supporting everyone through their career transition.”

The 73 employees will be paid through the end of the year and get a severance package as well as job placement services.
