Singapore Airlines (SIA) is set to introduce first class cabins on the world’s longest flights as part of a S$1.1 billion (£650 million) retrofit programme of its Airbus A350 fleet.

The airline will install new premium cabins across 41 A350-900 aircraft, including seven ultra-long-range (ULR) variants that operate the carrier’s longest routes. Notably, this marks the first time first class suites will be available on the ULR aircraft, representing a significant upgrade for passengers on these extended journeys.

The extensive modernisation programme, which includes completely redesigned business class cabins and refreshed premium economy and economy sections, will begin in the second quarter of 2026.Singapore Airlines Business Class upgradeThe first upgraded ULR aircraft will enter service in early 2027, with the entire fleet renovation scheduled for completion by the end of 2030.

“Over the past six years, we have extensively engaged customers and stakeholders in the design of our next-generation long-haul cabin products, anticipating their evolving preferences and expectations down to the finest detail,” says Goh Choon Phong, chief executive of Singapore Airlines.

The retrofit work will be carried out in Singapore by SIA Engineering Company. Once complete, the standard long-haul A350s will feature 42 business class seats, 24 premium economy seats, and 192 economy seats. The ULR variants will offer four first class suites, 70 business class seats, and 58 premium economy seats.

The upgrade includes a new version of the airline’s KrisWorld entertainment system, promising enhanced personalisation and expanded lifestyle options across all cabins. First and business class seats will receive new entertainment screens, though specifications won’t be revealed until closer to the launch date.

“The new First Class and Business Class seat designs will incorporate thoughtful elements that push the boundaries of comfort, luxury, and modernity, allowing our customers to relax or work effortlessly on board,” adds Goh.

The new cabin products will match those planned for Singapore Airlines’ upcoming Boeing 777-9 aircraft, details of which will be announced closer to their entry into service.
