If you thought that commercial aircraft being shot at was limited to Haiti, think again. The latest commercial aircraft to come under gunfire was a Southwest Airlines 737-800 at Dallas Love Field in Texas.
Southwest Airlines 737 Struck By Gunfire At Dallas Love Field
A Southwest Airlines 737-800 was hit by gunfire while taxiing to depart from Dallas Love (DAL) to Indianapolis (IND) on Friday, November 15, 2024.
Southwest Airlines explained:
Southwest Airlines Flight 2494 taxied safely back to the terminal at Dallas Love Field after a bullet apparently struck the right side of the aircraft just under the flight deck while the Crew was preparing for departure for Indianapolis. No injuries were reported. Southwest will accommodate our Customers on another flight. Law enforcement authorities have been notified and the plane has been removed from service.
The Dallas Police Department later confirmed a shooting had taken place near the airport at 8000 Herb Keller Way at around 9:48 pm local time. An investigation is ongoing.
The incident temporarily prompted a runway closure, but WN2494 eventually took off (with a new aircraft, this time a 737 MAX 8), arriving into Indianapolis at 1:58 pm, roughly two hours behind schedule.
99 people were onboard the flight. Thankfully, no passengers were injured.
