Major Airline Files For Bankruptcy Will It Affect New Jersey Holiday Travelers?
Traveling during the holidays is hard enough with the crowds, weather, and time crunch, but it may be even more stressful now that a major airline just announced it filed for bankruptcy. Are you traveling this holiday season? If you are flying let’s take a look at whether or not it will affect your travel plans.
According to a recent article from Patch, Major airline Spirit has filed for bankruptcy and now people are wondering if this could affect millions who will be traveling for the holiday season. Thanksgiving is just about a week away and it’s a big travel time for many. “The nation’s largest budget airline (Spirit) has lost more than $2.5 billion since the start of 2020, and is seeking to return to profitability.”
One bit of good news is that Spirit looks to continue service here in New Jersey during the holidays and during the bankruptcy filing. “Spirit Airlines flights out of two airports in New Jersey will continue without disruption over the Thanksgiving weekend and throughout Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, the discount carrier said in a statement Monday. Spirit offers service at Newark International Airport and Atlantic City International Airport.”
In addition, Spirit Airlines released details for travelers and employees. “Spirit customers can continue to book flights and use and accumulate loyalty miles as they normally would and employees and vendors will continue to be paid, the airline said in a statement.”
Even though this news is very concerning for travel, it appears not to be a threat this holiday season. That being said, I think we should all plan on seeing lots of travelers out and about this Thanksgiving and Christmas, so just plan ahead, keep calm, and Merry Christmas.
