Airlines are making bold changes in 2024. American Airlines is planning to end gate lice with its latest technology – while Southwest is getting rid of the plastic cups in favor of a bamboo cold cup that will help the environment.
We can add Delta to that list, making a bold change to its menu items as of December 1st. A partnership with Shake Shack wasn’t what we expected. The Shake Shack Cheeseburger will be available as of December 1st.
Let’s take a closer look at how passengers can access the newest Delta menu item, and how travelers reacted to the announcement.

Spirit Airlines plans to continue its flights despite the bankruptcy announcement.
Starting December 1st, Shake Shack Burgers Will Be Available On Select Delta Flights
The collaboration we never knew we needed! That’s right, Delta and Shake Shack are teaming up, starting December 1st during a flight to Boston. The airline plans on expanding the partnership to other U.S. markets throughout 2025.
Sadly, there is a catch to the latest partnership. Customers sitting in First Class on routes over 900 miles are the ones who can pre-select the Shake Shack Cheeseburger as their meal option.
Stephanie Laster, Managing Director of Onboard Service for Delta wrote in the official statement:
“A delicious cheeseburger is an iconic comfort food – our customers know that which is why burgers are one of the top ordered menu items we offer, and we’re thrilled to elevate the offering with Shake Shack”
The statement continues, “However, our partnership with Shake Shack goes beyond the burger. Shake Shack’s people-first culture and commitment to enriching their neighborhoods are spot on with our own brand values of service excellence and helping the communities we serve.”
Michael Kark, President of Global Licensing at Shake Shack, is just as excited about the newest partnership.
“At Shake Shack, we’re always looking for new and innovative ways to meet our guests where they are, even at 35,000 feet.”
“Taking our beloved cheeseburger to new heights, Shake Shack is proud to partner with Delta as we elevate the in-flight dining and hospitality experience for travelers across the country.”
The Shake Shack Cheeseburger will also be available via pre-select – meaning passengers can make their selection on the Fly Delta app 24 hours in advance.

Reddit Users Are Praising Delta’s Partnership With Shake Shack
Delta Airlines plane.
As expected, there is a lot of excitement online in regard to the partnership announcement. Reddit users call it a major upgrade, while others expected such a collab.
One user wrote, “Shake Shack is already in most if not all delta hubs already… kinda makes sense.”
Another person wrote, “This would be a huge upgrade over almost all their meal choices, although the burgers they occasionally have available now are probably one of their least offensive options.”
“Looks like Delta’s about to take in-flight dining to a whole new level just hope they don’t run out of fries mid-flight,” another user added.
Although some users took exception to the limited Shake Shack burgers available on a flight, one person noted that the move does make a lot of sense.
“To be fair, it’d be basically impossible to have decent hamburgers available for an entire flight. And Shake Shack wouldn’t want to have their brand associated with some awful, warmed up burger”
With an expansion set for 2025, it remains to be seen if Delta will increase the availability of its Shake Shack Cheeseburger during flights.
