Frequent flyers with Alaska Airlines
and Hawaiian Airlines
can now match elite status between the two airlines as they prepare to launch a unified loyalty program. The move follows several recent changes to enable more reciprocal benefits between the existing programs and enables members of Hawaiian Airlines’ HawaiianMiles program to enjoy the benefits of status in the oneworld Alliance.

The next steps to a new program

The combined airline has already introduced several ways for frequent flyers to take advantage of the new arrangement. Miles can be transferred between Alaska and Hawaiian loyalty accounts at a 1:1 ratio for no charge, and flights on both airlines can be purchased on either.

The status match page is now live so that members can receive frequent flyer status to take advantage of the new partnership. To be eligible, travelers must be members of Alaska’s Mileage Plan
program and Hawaiian’s HawaiianMiles
offering. To activate the offer, simply go to the designated page and log in with your Alaska Airlines account. The website will then ask you to log in with your HawaiianMiles account to complete the process.

The status match is free, and it can take up to 72 hours for the status match process to complete. Hawaiian’s loyalty program only has two levels: Pualani Gold and Pualani Platinum. Alaska’s, meanwhile, has four. The tiers are matched to the following corresponding elite levels in the other program:

What about status matches from other airlines?

Alaska Airlines will continue offering its existing status match program to other airline frequent flyer program members. Members who verify their earned frequent flyer status can gain the equivalent Alaska Mileage Plam status for 90 days to enjoy travel benefits like complimentary seat upgrades and free checked bags.

How To Use The Alaska Airlines Status Match To Earn Additional Frequent Flyer Benefits

Alaska Airlines offers a challenge to match status from several other programs.

The status match varies based on the originating airline. The following carriers are currently eligible for the status match, which can be found here.

People can only status match once, and it lasts for 90 days. To keep the new status, one must fly on Alaska Airlines-operated flights to earn the following miles within the first three months:

  • MVP status – fly 5,000 base miles on Alaska
  • MVP Gold status – fly 10,000 base miles on Alaska
  • MVP Gold 75K status – fly 20,000 base miles on Alaska

Interestingly, Microsoft employees can receive a fast track to MVP status, which remains valid for 180 days and only requires a minimum of two flights to retain.

There is still more to come. Brett Catlin, Vice President of Loyalty, Alliances, and Sales at Alaska Airlines, earlier this year highlighted what is still to come in coming months for frequent flyers:

“We’re on a multi-year journey to make the industry’s most generous loyalty program even more rewarding. In 2025, Mileage Plan members will have access to all-new, more frequent perks along with expanded ways to earn elite status, including on award travel. As we invest in a single loyalty platform with Hawaiian Airlines, there is even more to come later in the year.”

In addition, Alaska will launch a premium credit card and open lounges planned at San Diego International Airport and Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, followed by a new international lounge in Seattle by 2027.
