Holiday travelers leaving the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport experienced short delays Tuesday morning as the result of a nationwide grounding of American Airlines flights.
Five flights were delayed at GSP, each for less than an hour, according to Tom Tyra, who serves as chief marketing and communications officer at the airport.
“Most passengers were unaware that there was a delay,” Tyra said.
The ground stop took place from about 6:30 a.m. until 8 a.m. due to a technology issue, according to USA Today. While the situation appeared likely to result in delays and cancellations during the day at some airports, all GSP flights were back on schedule by the afternoon, Tyra said.
Tyra did not expect for GSP travelers’ connecting flights on Tuesday to be affected by the ground stop. But he added, “We always recommend passengers consult their airline’s website or app for the most current flight status information.”
