Virgin Australia is slashing the prices of domestic and international flights during its four-day Boxing Day sale – some flights dropping as low as $49.
Lowered sale fares to domestic hotspots such as the Gold Coast, Whitsundays and Hamilton Island and international destinations such as Bali, Queenstown and Fiji are part of the insane deals being offered by the major Aussie airline
But travellers will have to act quickly – the flash sale is only lasting from Boxing Day until December 29, unless the 500,000 economy tickets sell out prior.
Travellers who want to take advantage of these flights will be able to travel between January 5 and September 18, 2025.
Virgin Australia Executive, Libby Minogue, said the Boxing Day sale offers travellers an unmissable chance to kickstart their 2025 adventures with incredible value on Virgin Australia flights while earning Velocity Points.
“Boxing Day is synonymous with deals – and for Virgin Australia, it’s about giving our customers the freedom to explore more of Australia and beyond for less. With unbelievably low fares and the opportunity to earn Velocity Points, it’s the perfect time to lock in your next escape,” she said.
The lowest flight offered is between Sydney and Ballina (Byron Bay) for just $49.
For those looking for a summer vacation, Virgin says there will be cheaper flights to Bali, Fiji and Hamilton Island. Tickets from Sydney to Bali are expected to cost $609 or $559 from Melbourne.
New Zealand and Hobart are also included as part of the sale.
Ms Minogue urged travellers who want to take advantage of the sale to act fast before the tickets are all gone.
“Whether it’s a long-awaited reunion, a dream holiday, or a spontaneous getaway, these deals won’t last long, so we encourage travellers to book quickly before they’re gone.”
The flash sale comes just weeks after Virgin announced a new partnership with Qatar airways promising to deliver cheaper flights to Aussies.
Virgin, which has largely been out of the international market for four-and-a-half years, is returning to global travel as part of the Qatar Airways partnership, which is still to be given final approvals.
But Virgin is allowed to take bookings from Thursday for new services to fly directly from Sydney, Brisbane and Perth to Doha for travel from June next year.
At the time Virgin said the partnership was the next step in a major shake-up of international travel for Australians, with more competition to become available for flights to Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Virgin Australia chief executive Jayne Hrdlicka previously said the new partnership was targeting the peak European summer and would offer travellers cheaper long-haul flights.
“The partnership between Qatar and Virgin Australia is going to bring much-needed competition, especially flying to Europe,” she said.
“Competition is great for everyone. The more opportunities and choices consumers have, the harder everyone has to work.”
Ms Hrdlicka stopped short of saying customers had been overpaying since Covid but noted prices could fall with this new deal.
“It has taken a while post-Covid for everything to return to a balanced field for a lot of reasons. This is our opportunity to help improve the competitive dynamic,” she said.
