NAM moves 3,100 tonnes of flowers in record Valentine’s rush

Network Airline Management (NAM) has completed its largest-ever Valentine’s peak operation, transporting 3,100 tonnes of freshly cut flowers from Nairobi to Liège in the run-up to February 14.

The UK-based cargo carrier operated a total of 31 dedicated flights during the two-week peak period, comprising 16 scheduled services and a record 15 additional rotations.

Each flight, operated by NAM’s Boeing 747F fleet, carried more than 100 tonnes of roses and carnations.

In total, the operation moved 3.1 million kilograms of flowers across more than 1,300 pallets, with each pallet averaging over 2.3 tonnes.

The uplift reflects increased capacity on the Nairobi–Liège corridor following the airline’s expansion to eight scheduled northbound flights per week in late 2025.

The enhanced baseline schedule enabled NAM to scale rapidly for seasonal demand while maintaining regular service levels.

Ground operations in Kenya were overseen by the NAS Nairobi team, managing aircraft rotations and ensuring rapid turnaround.

On arrival at NAM’s Liège hub, consignments were processed and transferred via road networks to wholesalers and florists across Europe and the UK.

Sam Lindsey, commercial and operations director at NAM, said: “We are thrilled to have reached another incredible milestone. The increase from six to eight weekly scheduled flights last year boosted the foundations of our regular schedule, but operating an additional 15 flights specifically for this peak season is a testament to the hard work of our global teams.

“We remain deeply committed to supporting the Kenyan horticulture industry now and in the future. We appreciate our long-standing partners and customers for continuing to collaborate with us; we have set these new records with you by our side.”

The campaign underlines the strategic importance of the Kenya–Europe flower corridor and reinforces NAM’s role in supporting time-critical perishables supply chains during peak seasonal demand.
