DGCA OLODE Explained: How the On-Demand Exam Works

Most students meet the word OLODE the same way. A senior mentions it in passing, the Pariksha portal shows a tab for it, and nobody explains what it actually means. Then a paper goes badly in a regular session and the next one seems months away. That gap is exactly why on-demand sittings exist. This guide walks through how the DGCA OLODE exam works, who it suits, and how to apply without the usual slips.

Quick answer

OLODE stands for Online On-Demand Examination. It is a DGCA flight crew exam sitting that runs in addition to the regular sessions, so you can attempt papers without waiting for the next regular window. You log in to the Pariksha portal with your computer number, open the on-demand form during the period in the public notice, choose your papers and slots, and pay online.

What does OLODE mean and why did DGCA introduce it?

OLODE is the Online On-Demand Examination. DGCA announced it in October 2021 as an addition to the regular online sessions, which are held four times a year, so candidates get more chances to sit papers. Reports at the time said seats were allotted first-come, first-served, with the first sitting planned in Delhi.

The idea is simple. Before on-demand sittings, a failed or postponed paper could mean waiting a full quarter. For a student whose flying hours are nearly complete, that wait can hold up the whole licence file. An extra sitting between the regular windows shortens the gap, which is why instructors often tell students to learn how the on-demand form works before they need it.

How is an OLODE session different from a regular session?

A regular session is a fixed exam window held four times a year. An OLODE session is an extra sitting announced through its own public notice, with its own application period. You apply through the same Pariksha portal, but the on-demand form is open only for the dates stated in that notice.

Point Regular session OLODE session
How often Four times a year, according to DGCA at the 2021 announcement Extra sittings between the regular sessions
Where you apply Pariksha portal, regular examination form Pariksha portal, “On Demand FC Examination Form”
Application period Stated in the public notice Stated in that session’s own public notice
Paper and slot choice Chosen while applying One slot chosen for each paper while applying
Limits per session Check the notice One application and one aircraft type per session, according to the portal manual

The table shows why the two are easy to confuse: the screens look alike. The difference is the notice. Always read the public notice and its annexures for the session you are targeting, because they decide what is open.

Who can apply for the OLODE exam?

You need a DGCA computer number and a registered Pariksha login, and you should select only papers you are eligible for. The official portal manual warns that applications for ineligible papers may be rejected during scrutiny. If you are still waiting for your number, finish that first.

Our guide to the DGCA computer number explains the documents and the verification delays that catch people out. Once the number is in hand, our walkthrough of applying for DGCA exams on the Pariksha portal covers registration and the general form, which the on-demand form builds on.

How do you apply for an OLODE session?

You apply from your Pariksha login using the on-demand form, inside the application period given in the public notice. The steps below follow the official portal user manual, which dates from October 2021, so individual screens may look slightly different today.

  1. Log in to the Pariksha portal with your computer number.
  2. Open the Examination tab and choose the On Demand FC Examination Form.
  3. Select the active session, your category and your centre choice.
  4. Click the option to proceed to paper selection.
  5. Choose your papers from the sections listed: General, Technical, Technical Specific and Technical Performance.
  6. Pick one available slot from the drop-down for each paper.
  7. Submit, review every detail on the summary, then pay online through the government payment gateway.
  8. Download your admit card once the schedule is finalised.

Take your time at step 7. Once an application is submitted it cannot be edited, so the summary screen is your only chance to catch a wrong paper or slot.

What mistakes get an OLODE application into trouble?

Most problems are avoidable: choosing papers you are not eligible for, missing the closing date, selecting the wrong aircraft, or assuming you can edit after submitting. The portal manual says a submitted application cannot be changed, so check each paper and slot on the summary before you pay.

  • Ineligible papers: if you are unsure whether a paper is open to you, check the public notice or ask your training school before selecting it.
  • Late payment: the manual advises completing payment by 23:00 on the closing date, and a payment confirmed after midnight may not be accepted. Do not leave it to the last evening.
  • Wrong aircraft: candidates may appear for only one specific aircraft per session, so match the technical paper to the aircraft you actually train on.
  • Failed transaction: if a payment fails, the manual suggests waiting at least an hour before trying again, so keep a buffer.
  • Ignoring the notice: a notice can change the rules for a particular session. Read it each time.

Which papers can you take in an OLODE session?

The portal groups papers into four sections: General, Technical, Technical Specific and Technical Performance. Which individual papers a given session offers is stated in its public notice, so read the notice and annexures before you plan. Do not assume every paper is available in every sitting.

If you are preparing for CPL theory, it helps to know what each subject asks of you before you pick a sitting. Our overview of what DGCA exams look like and how to prepare and the CPL ground subjects syllabus are good starting points.

When does it make sense to use an on-demand sitting?

It makes sense when only one or two papers are left, when a retake would otherwise delay your licence file, or when you have prepared well and the next regular window is far away. It makes little sense as a shortcut for papers you have not revised or practised under timed conditions.

Think of it as a scheduling tool, not a safety net. A student who sits a paper unprepared simply burns an attempt. A student who has already scored comfortably in timed mocks can use an on-demand slot to keep momentum while flying hours are fresh. Our explainer on the DGCA pass mark and negative marking will help you judge whether your mock scores are strong enough to book.

What happens after you submit the OLODE form?

Your application is scrutinised, the exam schedule is finalised, and your admit card becomes available to download from the portal. The manual says the admit card is released after the schedule is finalised, so check your login regularly instead of waiting for a message to arrive.

On the day itself, training schools report that candidates are asked to carry the admit card and an original photo ID, and to arrive early. Read the instructions printed on your admit card, because they are the final word for your centre.
